Fun Things to Do in Denver This Weekend

A horror festival, a goth prom, and more.

It may not officially be fall, but tell that to the horror festival, haunted house, and goth prom going down this weekend. If you’re still in #froseallday mode, don’t worry—it’s not all corpses and gore this weekend. There’s still plenty of outdoor music, eating, and dancing to be had. From Denver’s first sober music festival to a picnic to a chile fest, there’s enough to keep the spirit of summer going a little longer.

Kick off haunted house season at the 13th Floor

Saturday, 7 pm
Elyria-Swansea
Screw pumpkin spice; post Labor Day is officially haunted house season, and the 13th Floor is one of the scariest around. It opens Saturday night with all the corpses, werewolves, fake blood, and, oddly enough, football bowling, you can handle.
Cost: From $19.99

Get down at Denver’s first sober music festival

Saturday, 5 - 10 pm
RiNo
The only liquid courage you’ll need to dance the night away at this inclusive music fest are the killer non-alcoholic drinks by Awake Sober Bar. N2N, DoubleCrush, Ishe, Yolanda Be Cool, and Autograf will get the RiNo Festival Grounds pumping. Hangovers not allowed.
Cost: $24.99

Scare yourself silly at this horror festival

Friday - Sunday
Central Park
It’s about time the Colorado Festival of Horror came to fruition. This inaugural event at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denver Central Park will be a full-on festival of fright, where horror fans can come together to celebrate the gory, the gross, and, of course, the ‘80s camp.
Cost: From $15

Picnic it up at Flavors of 9+CO

Saturday, 5:30 pm
Congress Park
Join 9+CO restaurants Pizzeria Locale, Postino, Clean Juice, Gelato Boy, and more for a Saturday night picnic in Hale Park. If pizza, wine, and gelato aren’t enough to sell you, there will be $5 cocktails, yard games, and music from hip hop cellist Jae Wes.
Cost: From $15

Time travel to the 1920s at this speakeasy theater

Friday & Saturday, 7 pm
Aurora
Fed up with the 2020’s? Head back to the 1920’s with Daisy’s Day Speakeasy, a flapper, cocktail, and jazz-filled experiential production at Factory Five Five. Enjoy live music, vaudeville acts, and a constantly changing storyline in a time when Covid doesn’t exist. But spoiler alert: There’s a depression and a world war ahead of you. And yeah, that probably applies to both centuries.
Cost: From $30

Don your best black for Goth Prom

Friday, 9 pm - 2 am
RiNo
If your prom involved a lot of bubblegum pop, smiles, and bright colors and not enough emo and darkness, then do we have the dance for you. Goth Prom returns to the Exdo Event Center to celebrate dark alternative culture with music from Night Club, DJ Scary Lady Sarah, St. Evil, and more.
Cost: From $25

Burn, baby, burn at the Sunnyside Music Festival

Saturday, 11 am - 7:30 pm
Sunnyside
Whether you’re into funk, bluegrass, protest dance, soul, jazz, or even yoga, there’s a band for you at Saturday’s Sunnyside Music Fest in Chaffee Park. Plan your day around Shakedown Street’s or Los Mocochetes’ sets, or just camp out all day and get a little something of everything.
Cost: Free entry

Spice things up at Westwood Chile Fest

Saturday, 12 - 7 pm
Westwood
Calling all chile lovers: Celebrate spicy peppers and Hispanic community and culture at Westwood Chile Fest. The food and art-centric event features chile roasting, some of the best food trucks in town, live music, and dance performances. Oh, and a chile eating contest for the extra brave.
Cost: Free entry
