This is it. The final weekend before Denver enters all-out holiday mode. Before every bar becomes a Christmas bar and twinkling lights escort you home at night. Except that some holiday events have already begun, like a holiday market, Nutcracker experience, pumpkin pie run, and beer and pie pairing. Indulge at those, or fend the holidays off a little longer at the Denver Wine Walk, Fall Fashion Week, and Spice Girls skate party. Here, eight happenings in Denver this weekend, holiday and otherwise.
Friday - Sunday
West RiNo
Whether you’re in full-on Christmas mode or already longing for Spring’s flowers, Lighthouse Immersive has a new experience for you. Immersive Nutcracker opens Saturday, with larger-than-life animated toy soldiers and graceful ballet dancers, while Immersive Monet & The Impressionists debuts Friday with its vibrant water lilies and gardens.
Cost: From $30
Saturday, 9 - 11 am
City Park
If you’re going to wake up early on a Saturday to run, it might as well end with a slice of pie at the finish line. After running the Pumpkin Pie 5K/10K and indulging in sweet, sweet pie, you may never run a pumpkin pie-less race again.
Cost: From $35
Saturday, 4 - 6:30 pm
16th Street Mall
One of Delicious Denver Food Tours’ most popular food/drink expeditions is their Denver Wine Walk, and for good reason. You get to sample eight wines from top bars and wineries, while strolling through Union Station, Dairy Block, and the 16th Street Mall. Bonus: the bites with your flights.
Cost: $99
Friday - Sunday
Cherry Creek
What better place to stroll a holiday market than under the nearly one million lights illuminating Cherry Creek North’s Winter Wanderland. Shop among 50 local makers and vendors while basking in the ultra-lit Christmas glory, listening to holiday music, and stopping for a few treats along the way.
Cost: Free entry
Saturday, 7 pm, Sunday, 4 pm
Capitol Hill
Discover emerging talent and local designers at Denver’s biggest fashion showcase. Saturday’s runway will feature collections from national designers, and Sunday’s show is dedicated to sustainable fashion. Head to the Sports Castle to inspire and be inspired.
Cost: From $30
Indulge your inner Spice Girl at this skate party
Friday, 7 pm - 2 am
Five Points
We know what you want, what you really, really want. You want a Spice Girls-themed roller skating party, and really, this might be Tracks’ best theme yet. Grab your best bedazzled Union Jack dress, pop your hair into a couple high pigtails, and spice up your life.
Cost: From $10
Friday - Sunday
Aurora
You’re in for a CANtastic time as Canstruction Colorado takes over the Stanley Marketplace through December 14. The city-wide competition pits architects and designers against each other in an attempt to build the biggest, most CANscendent structure using only canned food. The displays are a sight to behold, but the best part is that all the food is donated to We Don’t Waste.
Cost: Free entry
Saturday, 1 - 3 pm or 3 - 5 pm
Denver Beer Co. locations
Denver Beer Co. and Hinman Pie are teaming up for a delicious tasting covering the two major food groups: beer and pie. Or maybe we weren’t paying attention in Health class, but whatever. There’s beer and pie and it sounds delicious.
Cost: $30
