Looking ahead to a weekend full of Mile-High mischief in Denver Metro! Wrangle some good times at the National Western Stock Show, where the only thing higher than the altitude is the excitement. If you prefer oats over cowboys, strut over to the Lafayette Oatmeal Festival – where carbs are celebrated with a side of festival flair! Riot House is also throwing open its doors for those who prefer their weekends with a splash of rebellion. So, whether you're cheering on the Nuggets and Mammoth, sipping mocktails on a Dry January Tour, or getting artsy at "Making It Up: Art for Young Adults," this weekend has it all!
January 12-14
National Western Complex, Tickets: From $22
January in Colorado means mutton busting, bull riding, alpaca gazing, baby goat petting, and rodeo watching. It’s National Western Stock Show time, the sixteen winter days when everyone’s a cowboy or girl and we honor our western past. This weekend, get your fill of nonstop livestock action with the Pro Rodeo, Goat Show, and, of course, Mutton Bustin’.
January 13, 7:30-11:30 am
Lafayette, Tickets: $9
Did you know that Lafayette is host to the Quaker Oatmeal Festival? It is, and it’s this Saturday, when you’ll fill up on a hot oatmeal breakfast with your choice of 100 toppings. If you’re down with oats, this is the place to be.
January 12-14
LoDo, Free entry
Remember when Denver hosted MTV’s The Real World? Probably not since it was almost 20 years ago, but it happened, and now the former Real World house has been transformed into Riot House. From the team behind Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row, Riot House focuses on top-tier audio and a 300-square-foot LED wall.
January 13, 1-3:30 pm
RiNo, Tickets: $55
If you’re skipping the booze this month (and/or beyond), the Dry January Mocktail Tour leads you on a walking tour of RiNo spots pouring impressive NA options. You’ll learn more about spirit-free drinks while stopping into a kombucha bar, local brewery, and classy wine lair.
January 12, 8 pm-midnight
Grasslands, Tickets: From $20
Close down Biome, Denver’s newest fine arts festival, with a bang at the Biome Ball. Besides seeing the inaugural exhibition featuring works by diverse artists, you’ll get to do so in a total dance party vibe thanks to El Jaguar’s cumbia jams.
January 12, 8 pm; January 13, 7 pm & January 14, 1:30 pm
Ball Arena, Tickets: From $32
The Broncos may have missed the playoffs (again), but there’s still plenty of sport ball action to be had in town. Friday, the Nuggets take on the New Orleans Pelicans and then are back at it Sunday against the Indiana Pacers, while the Colorado Mammoth play the San Diego Seals Saturday night.
January 12-14
Number Thirty 38, Free entry
Keep on with the country at Number Thirty Eight, who’s hosting Bison Days to coincide with the National Western Stock Show. Many of the country music concerts are free, and this weekend’s concerts include Sugar Britches, Double Wide, and El Dolor. And in honor of Thirty Eight going country, there will be western themed food and drink to fuel all that line dancing.
January 13, 4:30-7:30 pm
Art Students League of Denver, Tickets: $20
If you’re between the ages of 18 and 24 you can take the night off from young adulting and make some art with the Art Students League of Denver. This special class for the youngsters focuses on art history surprises. Go get creative.
