Everything Fun to Do in Denver This Weekend

March is here!

Spring-like temps are making an early debut so you know what that means… get out and enjoy it while you can ‘cause who knows when more snow is gonna show up. Two new immersive experiences open this weekend, including one on the 16th Street Mall where you can wander under the sea (no bathing suit required). It’s also the first weekend of March, which means there’s a virtual First Friday from the Santa Fe Arts district, penny first Saturday at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and it’s time for another First Friday Jazz in the Park in Five Points. Oh, and also beer, and food pop-ups, and a polar plunges, and… what are you waiting for? Make some plans.

Check out three new exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art

MCA Denver
After a brief closure to change things up, the MCA is back open with three new exhibitions including Grace House Mural from artist Keith Haring, which was recently excavated from its original site and is being displayed as an installation for the first time. You can also check out Colorado in the Present Tense from Colorado-based artists Narkita Gold, Rick Griffith, Nathan Hall, and Maia Ruth Lee, and Jaime Carrejo’s Waiting.
Cost: Museum admission is $10 and you do need to purchase timed tickets in advance but this Saturday is penny admission day so you can visit for just a cent

See an immersive theatrical circus

Rainbow Militia, who bring together circus, theatre and dance, and Prismajic, who recently  brought Natura Obscura to life in Denver, have teamed up for a new can’t miss experience, Celestial Chaos. The show is inspired by ancient Greek mythology and yes, you should totally dress to the theme. They’ve even got add ons like a “godlike headdress” available for the performance.

Go to First Friday Jazz in the Park for live music

Denver neighborhood Five Points is known for its jazz-filled history and they’re keeping that spirit alive with free concerts the first Friday of each month. Come by for some relaxed, outdoor fun thanks to the Jazz Hop series.

Tune into the Santa Fe Arts District virtual First Friday

Miss perusing the galleries during first Friday? The Art District on Santa Fe misses you too, so this month, they’re taking this popular tradition online for the second time. You can tune in on their Facebook page for a First Friday Women's History Month edition featuring the women-owned and operated businesses of the district.

Order a Comal@Home meal kit

Comal Heritage Food Incubator
More than a restaurant, Comal Heritage Food Incubator is also a training program run by Focus Points Family Resource Center which provides skills in culinary arts and business to immigrants and refugees. Each week in March, a different meal kit will be available to order by Wednesday for pickup on Friday. The series kicks off this week with Comal chef Raymunda Carreon’s pozole de puerco served with tortilla chips, avocado, radishes, red onion, chili flakes, and oregano. A vegetarian version is also available.
Cost: $60, serves 4 - 6 people

Celebrate Zuni Street Brewing’s Fourth Anniversary

This LoHi brewery has been open for as long as you spent in high school, and that’s a pretty great reason to celebrate. It’s also a pretty good excuse for you to get out of the house and check out their heated front and back patios while enjoying beer releases, raffles, giveaways, and live music all weekend long.

Experience the new Earth Illuminated installation

Get ready for an Instagram-worthy photoshoot at this new downtown destination opening this weekend. Earth Illuminated is a 13,000 square foot space that’s been transformed into a series of immersive environments showcasing planet Earth’s beauty from air, land, and sea. It’ll be open for the rest of the year, so if you can’t make it this weekend, be sure to add this to your spring must-do’s.

Celebrate International Women’s Day at an outdoor festival

Inspired by co-owner and distiller Michelle Weaver’s hard work behind the scenes, The Block Distilling Co. is hosting their second annual celebration to honor those kickass women that make so many Denver businesses run smoothly. This year, “Get It Girl” will move outdoors with  a street-fest atmosphere featuring shopping from six unique Denver retailers and boozy beverages available from The Block, Ratio Beerworks, and Odell Rino Brewhouse including the Marigold Sour cocktail with a portion of proceeds from the drink going to Nathaniel Rateliffe’s The Marigold Project.

Dine on Filipino and Khmer dishes at a pop-up

Started by two local women, Pannah Son, who is Cambodian-American, and Lariza Amon, who is filipino, the only way to taste food from the newly launched Riceboxx is to find them at a pop-up, and this weekend you’re in luck. The two chefs will be serving up Cambodian spicy chicken sandwiches, a Cambodian burger, lumpia, and more available to pre-order for pickup from Brass Tacks.

Take a polar plunge for a good cause

Wash Park
The first ever Polar Plunge Roulette and 5K Run at Wash Park is happening this Sunday. You can opt to do one or both events while raising money for Special Olympics Colorado athletes, but be forewarned, this isn’t your typical polar plunge. Each participant will spin a wheel and be doused with whatever it lands on—which could be anything from ice cold or warm water to a mystery bucket. Could it be ketchup? soda? dessert? Are you up for finding out? Be sure to bring goggles and an extra towel for your car seat just in case...
Cost: Plungers must raise at least $75 to plunge and runners must raise at least $45
